    Engetsu Island is a well-known symbol of Shirahama. It is officially named Takashima, but is called Engetsu ("full moon") because of the circular moon-shaped sea cave opening in the middle of the small island. The sunset over Engetsu Island has been selected as one of the 100 best sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture and is exceptionally beautiful.
